Google Chrome in Ubuntu
With the help of @ClubUbuntu and this post on his website, I have now installed Google Chrome with Flash support into my Ubuntu 9.04 desktop. So far, I'm pretty impressed.
Now, don't get too excited, it's still just an Alpha version of the browser, and it doesn't quite work as well as the Windows version, but it's still pretty damn good ... in fact, I'm posting from it now. I've made a quick video screen capture to show you how it's working. I just did some basic stuff, like play a little video in Youku (there's sound, I just haven't set up audio support in my screen capture program yet), pressed CTRL+H to open my history and then went to Kaixin001.com. Both Youku and Kaixin001 are very flash intensive, so you can see the flash support (far from perfect, but not bad). I also dragged a tab off of the main browser window to open a new window instead of a new tab. The biggest feature the Alpha version is missing is some of the privacy settings, however the "incognito window" is available.
Have a look.
And an ACID3 test, Chrome vs. Firefox 3.0.12.
Complete, total, unsupported, speculative question:
Could Google's development of a Linux version of Chrome with a .deb installation file point in the direction that Google is taking Chrome OS?
