Morning Walk - May 14, 2010

This morning's walk was a time waster, I had an hour and a half between the end of my shift and the opening of the closest supermarket, and I needed things like milk, bread, and anything else that's consumable to fill my empty fridge, so I walked to fill the time. I almost always do this, mostly because when I get home, sit for an hour, most likely eat, I don't want to get back out. The walk was good. It was unbearably hot when walking in the sun, but just right in the shade. I like that, if I got to hot, I just crossed the street and got in the shade of the 6 to 12 story buildings that line most of the streets.

On another note, I'm kinda pissed at Google Maps. Not only are they about 1/2 kilometer off when switching between "Map" view and "Satellite" view, they also don't have a lot of roads and walkways in map view that are clearly present, and visible, when you switch to satellite view. If you don't believe me, click on the Sat button in the map below and look at how far off the line (that marks the route I've plotted) is from any actual roads. My problem with this is as follows; I'm a pretty precise person, I want to know exactly how much something weighs, how tall, how fast, etc ... in this instance, I want to know exactly how far I walked. Since one of the roads I took, a big road (4 lanes), isn't on the map, I have to fudge my map around and try to guestimate an approximation of the distance. I can guestimate some things fairly accurately (i.e. bra sizes ;) ), but it's hard, for me, to do on a map. Come on, Google, get it together already :p

Anyway, other than a little 3 wheel car rear-ending a taxi about 10 meters away from me (the trunk on those things is in the front and it must've been full of fruits and veggies because the road was covered in cole slaw afterwards), and noticing a police car parked in front of every primary school I walked past (except in the really poor area ... which kinda pissed me off, the other 2 I walked by were in much classier areas ... but I could have just not seen them), the walk was uneventful, but there was, as always, a podcast (Howstuffworks.com: Stuff You Should Know), and some good music drowning out everyone around me.

Now, I'm going to go order some pizza, play some World of Warcraft, and drink a couple beers. Here's the (highly inaccurate, route-wise; fairly accurate, distance-wise) map.
