Democratic Nominee, Barak Obama, has stated as plainly as he could that he didn't believe John McCain would make any changes while in office. He used plain English that "plain" people can understand. Why is it, then, that the McCain - Palin campaigners have turned this into a huge sexism issue?
Obama making the statement
Not long before Obama made this comment, Sarah Palin compared herself and all "hockey-moms" to a pit-bull, a rather aggressive dog that has a bad reputation for locking it's jaws around an unlucky, weaker animal, or something that it has been sent to attack. So, is Sarah Palin just stating that she is aggressive, or is she stating she going to chew up and spit out those who are weaker than her or those that she's told to attack? I'm going to say she's just saying she's aggressive, but, see for yourself.
Pit-bulls and Hockey-moms
I don't understand why McCain's campaign is making such a big deal out of this. According to Google, the BBC, the New York Times, MSNBC, Yahoo, MSN, and several other online news sites, McCain made the same remarks in reference to a proposal Hilary Clinton was campaigning on earlier in the year.
a double-standard...NO!!!
Where did this whole "Lipstick on a pig" phrase come from anyway? Click the links below to see what these sites have found.
- The Dallas Morning News sites several occurrences of VP Dick Cheney saying it during the 2004 elections
- TIME notes several different people stating it as far back as 1985
- Wikipedia.org states that the phrase is "...an American colloquialism that means, "making the unattractive superficially attractive," with overtones of futility or of a lost cause." (search Vernacular)
- CNN Politics.com again, like TIME, cites several instances of politicians using the phrase in the recent past
What do I think? I don't care. If McCain wins, I'll stay in China for another 4 to 8 years doing what I do now. Why, because no Republican president is going to make changes that will improve the lives of the average American if it hurts the pockets of the elite one percent. If Obama wins, and things do actually start to change, I'll come back and go about my life.
