More on the bailout

I've been trying to get my mind around this proposed $700 Billion Wall Street bailout plan for a while now. Now that the Senate has added all kinds of little B.S. things to it so it would pass there, I've still got some questions.

  1. If it's such a good proposal, why did the Senate have to add a bunch of shit to it to get it passed? Is it so they can claim they voted for it because it included one of the add-ons, just in case the whole thing goes sour?

Voting

I've stated that I don't vote because the U.S. still relies on an out-of-date form of "Democracy" to choose a President, the Electoral College.

Just Say No

Today, Congress voted not to pass the $700 billion dollar Wall Street Bailout (by the way, that's a 7 with 11 zero's after it). There were many reasons, some good and some bad. A good one, House Republican, Ron Paul of Texas, voted against it because he felt it would devalue the U.S. dollar which would be even more detrimental to the world economy than the collapse of a few greedy banks. A bad one, several House Republican's are rumored to have voted "No" because they didn't like the tone (and negative remarks about Republicans) of Nancy Pelosi's closing speech.

Trial by Fire

I've had my Eee for about 6 days now and I've already had 4 operating systems on it.

  1. It was shipped with the Eee PC version of Xandros Linux in Taiwanese. I ditched this for a obvious reason, I can't read Taiwanese.
  2. Next, I tried the English version of the Eee PC Xandros. This one wasn't bad, but it wasn't a full featured Linux and I've got so used to Ubuntu on my desktop that any Linux that wasn't full featured was just going to be nuisance.

New Computer

I got my Eee PC 901 today, Yippeee!!! It's got an 8.9" display, 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom cpu, 1 GB of memory, a 20 GB SSD hard drive, and Taiwanese characters on the keys. Oh well, since this model is only sold in Hong Kong and Taiwan, it was a necessary evil. Who knows, maybe I'll learn something. Yah, you're probably right, I'm too think to learn anything just by looking at it.

I got my Eee

Politicians

Being an election year in the US, I've been focusing on politics for my last few posts. This post, I would like to say a couple things about some of the politicians out there.

This is an interview with a former Australian Senator after an oil tanker split in two and dumped 20,000 tons of oil into the sea.

Why I won't be voting in Presidential Elections

In a comment to a previous post, a user stated that voting in this election was more important than ever. I replied by basically saying that do to the electoral college, my vote means very little (here). This post is to justify my reasoning for not voting in Presidential Elections.
