Being an election year in the US, I've been focusing on politics for my last few posts. This post, I would like to say a couple things about some of the politicians out there.
This is an interview with a former Australian Senator after an oil tanker split in two and dumped 20,000 tons of oil into the sea.
That was laughable, it seems like it would be better suited in a Monty Python sketch or Abbott & Costello.
I don't like politicians, but even I didn't think a politician could be this ignorant. So, I checked up on this video and found that it's not real, but a spoof done by an Australian comedy duo.
To move on to another, more recent politician, I'm going to dig up something Sarah Palin said in an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson. When asked about the economy, she states (this one's real)
"...and government can play an appropriate role in helping to strengthen the economy. We need to put government back on the side of the people and make sure it is not government solely looked at for all the solutions, for one. Government has got to get out of the way, in some respects, of the private sector being able to create the jobs that we need, jobs that are going to allow families to afford health care,... mortgages,... college tuition..."
You can watch that video here, I recommend watching all 3 (or depending on which Youtube user uploaded it, 4) parts of the interview, but if you want to jump ahead to the part I'm talking about, it starts at the 17 second mark.
Now, let's take a look at what the private sector is doing to America. In this CNNMoney.com article, it states that
"HP said the workforce reduction will result in annual cost savings of about $1.8 billion. Of the nearly 25,000 layoffs, HP said about half will come from workers in the United States."
I'm not usually for bigger government, but when somethings broke, you've got to do something to fix it, because, if this is what the private sector sees as improving our economy, then I'll take the government that's going to ensure my ability to put a roof over my head, food on the table, and shoes on my feet, over the government that's going to ensure those same rights to the minority of the population that earns over $250,000 per year.
