Windows XP Look-a-Like

As any of you who follow this website know, I really like Ubuntu Linux.

Where's Pidgin?

I have been playing around with Karmic Koala in Virtualbox for a couple of weeks now, and it appears that Canonical has dropped Pidgin from this update and replaced it with

Google Chrome in Ubuntu

With the help of @ClubUbuntu and this post on his website, I have now installed Google Chrome with Flash support into my Ubuntu 9.04 desktop. So far, I'm pretty impressed.

How to Record Your Desktop in Ubuntu

This is a screen cast I made a while back showing an easy way to install a video screen capture program for Ubuntu. I made this using a virtual installation of Ubuntu 8.04, but this will work for 8.10 and 9.04 as well.

Linux Apps - Twitter

I just went through eight Twitter apps for Linux to determine which will be my new Twitter client, and I thought I'd share my thoughts of them with you.

I tried four native Linux apps that I obtained through Ubuntu's Add/Remove feature under the Applications menu, and another four for Adobe Air. I decided to do this because I realized that TweetDeck was a memory hog and, though I have two gigabytes of RAM, it would slow some of my other programs from time to time. Here's my initial thoughts (I'll get a little more detailed after the tables ... and there are no screenshots).

I'm a Geek

So, next week I'm going to upgrade my Ubuntu installation from a Heron to an Ibex. I'm actually kind of excited about this. I've read a lot of good things about it ... even though one ZDNet writer said it was closer to a Service Pack than a new release. Anyway, I've updated a virtual installation I have of Ubuntu on my work computer to Ubuntu 8.10 and I like it, so far.

Play things

I've come to the conclusion that I need something to fill my spare time with. When I was teaching, it was reading. Now, I am fixated on computers and everything computer related. My newest toy is my iPhone. Two of my favorite features are the 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. These are two things I use quite regulary, Wi-Fi in coffee shops to stay in touch with the outside world and Bluetooth because I'm too lazy to hold my phone while I talk on it. It's also got the cool touch screen feature.
