Play things

Submitted by tom on Fri, 06/20/2008 - 11:38

I've come to the conclusion that I need something to fill my spare time with. When I was teaching, it was reading. Now, I am fixated on computers and everything computer related. My newest toy is my iPhone. Two of my favorite features are the 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. These are two things I use quite regulary, Wi-Fi in coffee shops to stay in touch with the outside world and Bluetooth because I'm too lazy to hold my phone while I talk on it. It's also got the cool touch screen feature.

Sick day

Called in sick today. Woke up and ... well, without going into details, I didn't feel well. I had planned on going in for at least half the night, but by that time, I was deeply entrenched in a movie (National Treasure 2) that had another hour in it and I didn't feel like putting it on hold. I wish I had considered what I would do for the three hours after the movie ended.

Bored - more b*tching and moaning

Sitting at work, nothing to do. I could take calls, but my boss is being a prick, so, I thought I'd return the favor.

Possible Switch to OpenSuSe

Submitted by tom on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 12:32

I'm contemplating a Linux switch. Don't get me wrong, Ubuntu is great, but I've heard much better things about OpenSuSe. The current version of OpenSuSe is 10.3, but 11.0 is set to be released very soon (see bottom-left of the page).

Why would I leave Ubuntu?

Pepe

So we've got a new house-mate for a couple of weeks. He's cute as hell and about 10 inches tall. He's Rick's and Rika's dog, Pepe (see pictures below). I love having a dog around. More than that, he'll be a wonderful distraction for my daily work routine.

What to do when pushed into a Corner?

Submitted by tom on Thu, 06/05/2008 - 07:40

When the boss starts pushing, what do you do?

I generally let him/her edge me back, at a very slow, comfortable pace.

When you notice that your being pushed into a corner by your boss, what do you do?

Up until now, I can't say that I've been backed into a corner by a manager, supervisor, etc, so I can't honestly say what I will do. I can say that it's not comfortable any longer and something my dad taught me a long time ago is starting to edge it's way into my every day thought process; when you're pushed, push back.
